Become a keeper for a day this summer - 7-13 year olds wack on your wellies and join our staff 9am-3.00pm. We promise you hands on fun, more animals than you can handle, feedings, mucking out, preparing dinner... like a real keeper a keeper has to do!
Come for the day or take advantage of the special weekly rate and join us all week - no 2 days will eb the same! Lunch and snacks and any materials needed are included.
What will I do?
These days are Hands-on, join-in, be-part-of-it. Fun zoo keeper days for children aged 7-13. You will join our keepers on a different adventure and get hands on to learn about the creatures you share the earth with. Every day there will be * Cleaning * Animals to feed * Tours behind the scenes * Up close animal encounters * Hands on activities
Monday 7th August
Start at our primate house with a little cleaning, help prepare feed, feed the animals, enjoy a tour of the zoo and so much more.
Tuesday 8th August
Meet our Friends with feathers and take part in an oil activity, showing you what oil can do to feathers. Muck in with cleaning and then get stuck into an activity to take home.
Wednesday 9th August
Begin at Africa, cleaning rhinos, giraffes, nyala,,,then time for a snack. You are then in for a treat,,,,if your feeling brave meet our African lion and take part in a hand feeding (with tongs)
Thursday 10th August
We are looking for a nice warm day today so you can treat our bears to a hand made ice lolly. Then it's off to weigh and bath our tortoise,,,,,how heavy will the heaviest be?
Friday 11th August
Join in today with a lemur and spider monkey clean and feed. Make an enrichment for our anteaters,,,what do they like to eat?? If your feeling brave you can meet our jaguars too.
What Animals will I work with?
With a different theme every day - you will work with a range of animals from giraffes, penguins, lemurs, tapirs, big cats, rhinos, bears, monkeys, kangaroos, wallabies, and the animals in our tropical house which includes bats, tamarins, parrots and the birds in the Aviary. Bring your Camera along and get some great picture opportunities.
What will I do?

Included in the day will be * Cleaning * Animals to feed * Tours behind the scenes visits * Up close animal encounters * Hands on activities * Art and crafts. All adding up to amazing days of animal awesomeness.
What shall I wear?
You will be expected to muck in so wear clothing you wont mind getting a bit dirty. Bring trainers for your feet but also some sensible shoes, either walking boots or wellingtons for wet muddy jobs. Even though it is summer a raincoat and some warm layers. All materials for activities will be included.
What time do I start?
Each day starts at 9am and finishes at 3. Your parents or adult will be able to collect you from admissions.
Cost £80 per day ; 2 days or 2 children on 1 day £150; or £200 per week. Snacks, lunch and materials needed for the activities are included.
For the Parents:
Children are supervised at ALL TIMES by one of our highly trained animal carers. This is a group experience with a maximum of 10 places per day. A parent/ guardian must sign a disclaimer at the beginning of the day and they must leave and emergency contact number before they go.
Please NOTE due to the nature of the experience all special needs and medical issues must be declared at time of booking. Regrettably certain guests will be unable to take part including people with relevant phobias or known allergies and immunocompromised individuals.
Whilst every effort is made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this cannot always be achieved; please contact the park for advice before purchasing.
In the event of a child misbehaving or creating difficulties or health and safety issues within the group the keeper in charge on the day has the right to withdraw that child. Parents/Adults will be contacted and the experience halted with no refunds given.
All family members can visit the Park on the day however they must pay our admission prices to enter - our normal opening time is 10:00am.
The camp experience starts at 8.45am and will finish at 3.00pm and your information documents will let you know where you need to pick up your Junior Keepers.
To be eligible for this you must be between the ages of 7-13 years old.
